30 Questions with Laurie Fisher
Today we are honored to hear Laurie Fisher, the Founder and CEO of LMA, answer a series of 30 questions! Laurie founded LMA in 2004 and has presided over the company ever since. She opened the agency as a result of many client requests to assist them with all aspects of marketing. Laurie has always stressed client results as the foundation of her business.Her vision and long-standing relationships with both the media and her clients, has taken the business from start-up to one of the leaders in the industry. Laurie has over 20-plus years of media experience and an extensive background as an award-winning producer for such organizations as Clear Channel Communications, Jacor Broadcasting, Gannett and Midwest Television. Here is the entertaining, informative, and fun information we found out:
- When did you open LMA? In 2004!
- When you were ten, what did you want to be when you grew up? A doctor.
- When are you most inspired? When I’m helping or connecting people, really making a difference inspires me.
- What inspired you to start your own business? I wanted to work with fewer clients on a deeper level, and help with their overall marketing. Instead of helping clients with just the media I was currently representing, I also wanted to be full service. The book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”, also inspired me to start a business.
- What college did you go to? Cal Poly, where I studied Engineering, and SDSU I studied business with a concentration in Marketing.
- Are you a coffee or tea drinker in the morning? Coffee
- What’s your favorite book to read while you sip your coffee or tea? “Who Moved my Cheese?” or “The Four Agreements”
- What is your favorite movie? Jerry Maguire
- Who was your first celebrity crush? Leif Garrett, throw back to the 70’s!
- Do you have a hobby? Skiing
- Favorite place to ski? Deer Valley, Park City, Utah
- What makes you laugh no matter what? Jeff always makes me laugh! Even when I’m mad at him, he never fails to make me laugh.
- Which do you like more, beach or snow? Snow
- What’s a perfect day for you? Going for a walk or bike ride, a little yoga, and a lot of family time! A cocktail to end the night could be good too.
- What’s your favorite city? Venice, Italy
- What is the best thing you do here? I love to go to Murano. They have the most amazing glass blowing galleries, it’s a beautiful and wonderful art form.
- On a plane, window or aisle seat? Window
- What’s your favorite junk food to eat? Does cheese count? Salt and pepper Kettle Chips with french onion dip. It’s a movie must have.
- What is the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten? Raw Quail eggs or cow’s tongue!
- What is your favorite restaurant? Food wise, Ken Sushi or Sushi Ota! I love sushi. In terms of ambiance, Eddies V’s with the ocean view bar or Manhattan’s with the old school, Italian vibe.
- If you could eat dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? My grandmother that I never met, Lillian.
- What do you think is the coolest thing you’ve ever done? Being a mom!
- What’s the second coolest thing you’ve ever done? I had traveled most of the world before I was 30!
- What age was your favorite? 35, I had my first baby, found the man of my dreams (Jeff), moved into a new home, and had a successful career!
- What is your favorite holiday? Thanksgiving
- What’s the best gift you ever received? My daughters! As many mothers would say. Second best, the jacuzzi my parents are getting for me and my family!
- What was your last Halloween costume? I was Cher, and Jeff was Sonny
- What’s your favorite store? Nordstrom
- How many hours of sleep do you need? 8 hours, it’s what’s recommended.
- What is one piece of advice you would give to a woman wanting to start her own business? You can do anything you set your mind to, don’t let anyone ever tell you any different. People will try to talk you out of it, but don’t let them. Being an entrepreneur is the best thing a woman can do. Surround yourself with positive people who believe in you and believe in yourself, and you can do anything.
